Classic PC games worth buying

Post by The Great Chi on Sun Aug 05, 2012 6:02 pm

Over the years I have always loved Tomb Raider games, but I also loved the following classic games, and they are worth buying either new if you can find them, or secondhand from ebay or games stores. (in PC or console formats)......

I cannot post external links yet, but check out these games on wikipedia for more info, if you are interested in knowing more.

PROJECT NOMADS..... Science fiction
Project Nomads released in 2002. It is set on the fictional planet Aeres, a fantastic world of gigantic floating islands, which are the remnants of the planet from before it exploded. YOu can chose to be the woman or the man, and fight against a nasty enemy. Same 3D enviroment world and 3D characters game, just like tomb raider, Visually brilliant.

ICO..... Science fantasy
2001 game, a young boy named Ico who was born with horns, which his village considers a bad omen. Warriors lock him away in an abandoned fortress. During his explorations of the fortress, Ico encounters Yorda, the daughter of the castle's Queen. The Queen plans to use Yorda's body to extend her own lifespan. Learning this, Ico seeks to escape the castle with Yorda, keeping her safe from the shadow-like creatures that attempt to draw her back. Throughout the game, the player controls Ico as he explores the castle, solves puzzles and assists Yorda across obstacles. Visually stunning, brilliant atmosphere and very interesting fighting hitting these creatures with a stick, a real feel that you are there type of game. One of my favorites.

SHADOW OF THE COLLOSUS...Science fantasy
2006 game, (same makers of ICO). A young man named Wander who enters a forbidden land. Wander must travel across a vast expanse on horseback and defeat sixteen massive beings, known simply as colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl named Mono. Another fantastic game with very realistic graphics for the man on horseback travaling across the landscape, and the colossi are a sight to behold. A real feel of clutching on the cloossi backs as you fight them holding on for dear life. Only down side is killing these creatures, as it is so sad, but still a fantastic game to play.

BEYOND GOOD AND EVIL.. Science fiction
2003 game, The story follows the adventures of Jade, an investigative reporter and martial artist on a planet, who works with a resistance movement to reveal a planet-wide alien conspiracy. The player controls Jade (a female human), piggy uncle and allies, solving puzzles, fighting enemies, and obtaining photographic evidence. Again a stunning graphical adventure with really good atmospheric and funny music. One of the best adventures around.

Cheers Chi Very Happy

Very nice thread, Chi! cheers

Wolfenstein 3D
One of the first first person shooters, this classic features your character attempting to escape a maze while at the same time shoot up all those baddies. There are several tools you may also download that will let you modify, and make your own levels in the game! Great fun! Smile

Nancy Drew: The Haunted Mansion
Yes... I know it's Nancy Drew, and yes... I know that sounds girly. But these old point and click games are actually extremely fun! Very Happy Once you get aside the fact that Emma Roberts ruined the character, the games are very enjoyable. It's not even a girls game, it's just a fun little mystery game. All sorts of fun puzzles are in this game that you must solve, and some parts will keep you on the edge of your seat! Very Happy

Lemmings: Revoultion
This game is a re-done version of the classic, "Lemmings". You must guide your cute little lemmings on their way to freedom by building, destroying, and playing through all sorts of puzzles. Great fun! Very Happy

Wolfenstein 3D was a few years before doom, there were other Wolfenstein games that were many years before doom however, but they weren't FPS's.

And yes, lemmings is a classic! Smile

What makes these two games special is the atmospheric feel, and how the game controls make it very realistic.

In ICO you get feel of the pull of the baddies as your trying to pull the girl to safety. You feel the whack of the stick as though it is you keeping the baddies at bay. Your eyes are darting everywhere for these shadowy creatures.

In SHADOW the very process of trying to stay on the back of the collosi is very demanding, and you get a real feel of powerfull movement. Also the realism of the creatures and horse movement is perfect.

Yeh, I might just get my PC versions out now and give them a try again Very Happy
